Aluminium: production of secondary aluminium
Production of secondary aluminum
Melting of aluminum products for recycling or producing 'secondary' aluminum requires only 5 to 10% of the energy needed for the production of'primary' aluminum. There is no fundamental deterioration in secondary aluminum, not even after repeatedly remelting. Therefore, the aluminum cycle offers unlimited possibilities in terms of sustainability.
Since 1990, the production of secondary aluminum increased by 30%, and demand still increases continuously. In Flanders, only secondary aluminum is produced.
